The Challenge
Built custom Laravel middleware integrated with a freight API to solve real-time LTL rate calculation at checkout — something no standard Shopify app could handle. Had to build liftgate logic and residential vs. commercial delivery detection that directly affected pricing accuracy in real time.
Our Approach
We sat between Shopify checkout and the Freightcom rate API with a Laravel middleware layer, evaluating product weight/dimension data and shipping address type on every quote request instead of relying on a static rate table, plus a markup admin panel so the client controls margins.
The Impact
Freight quotes shown at checkout now match what the carrier actually bills. The client went live and received orders on day one.
